Decluttering It's not as hard as you think!
The word decluttering sends most people running away. Just saying the word makes people feel overwhelmed. We are so busy with our jobs, kids, pets, sports and the list goes on. Who has time to declutter! If you have too much stuff in your home we can break it down in a few ways.
- First let's get rid of all the stuff that is broken, even those things that you swear you are going to fix when it broke last year.
- Now remove all of all the things you don't love. If the items are still in good condition give to a local good will store, there will be someone who will love it just as much as you did when you first got it. It's also good for the environment.
- If you find you still have too much, you can do what I do and buy 4 bins mark on them spring, summer, fall, winter (I also have Halloween and Christmas bins). Each season you can bring out your treasured Items and put away the previous season's items. It's like having new decor every season without spending any money. Remember if you have something you have not put out for a year, give it away. I try to bring out my seasonal items on the day that the season starts.
It is important to have only what you love in your home, what might inspire you or make you laugh. The fairy picture you see is one of my favourite things I have in my house. I keep it in my kitchen close to where I do dishes (not my favourite job!). Every time I look at it, it makes me laugh.
When you start decluttering your house start in the room that is the easiest, that way it will be done quickly and you will feel great about what you accomplished. This will also help you get into a routine for the larger rooms. Your home will be easier to keep clean and it will feel like a fresh spring breeze has just floated through your home.
Most people wait until spring to start the working on the inside of the home. When spring comes the last place you want to be is inside so start the decluttering in January.
